Fifth of May

Happy Cinco de Mayo! For all you non-spanish speakers, that translates "five of mayo", which is a way to ask for condiments in the native Mexican tongue, Spanish. I'm only kidding, we all of course know that Cinco de Mayo commemorates an initial victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguin over French forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862...and I definitely didn't wikipedia that.

This holiday has become engrained in the American way of life, I feel, for two reasons. First, we have a lot of Mexicans here in America. Second, we Americans will accept any holiday that allows us to get drunk on a specific day, no matter where it falls in the week. We don't really care about the significance or the history of the holiday, we just want to drink tequilla and maybe take a few swings at a multi-colored donkey piñata. I know Brendan and I will be out grinding, or "El Grindo" in celebration(maybe even with some Latinas!), and most likely cap things off with a taco. ¡Viva La México!
