Memorial Day Weekend

Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone. I for one will be viewing the Indy 500 in its entirety today, not really because I’m an Indy racing fan, but more because I think Danica Patrick is incredibly hot. How could you not? Thinking about her winging around those turns at speeds over 200mph, the car shaking and vibrating her entire body, her sexy little hands gripping the wheel for dear life...It just really gets me ‘revved up’, to throw some auto terms at you. If you haven’t checked out her photo shoot for Sports Illustrated, it comes highly recommended from me.

For as long as I can remember, I have watched the Indy 500 every year. When I was a young lad, before my brothers and my schedules were filled up with various extracurriculars, we almost always spent the long weekend at the family place in Michigan. Sunday I would wake up to the smell of coffee and breakfast my mom was whipping up, and the sound of those Indy cars my dad was cranking from the TV. I always thought it was cool that my dad made a point of watching the race every year, and I knew very young that was a tradition I wanted to adopt. Any event that allows you lay motionless on the couch for several hours, drinking Coca-Cola and eating various Planter’s peanuts (dad always went honey roasted), is just fine by me. Even for a kid with ADD, there is just something about the race that can keep my attention for the entirety. I find the countdown from 500 calming, and love watching the laps peel off.

I’ve even attended racing school in Michigan at a place called MRS (Michigan Racing School) with my brothers. We spent an entire weekend decked out in fireproof suits and driving boots, behind the wheels of go-karts that could push 60...if you knew how to open them up on the back stretch like I did. Being brothers, we still argue about who officially won the final race of the weekend, and we probably always will. We would later join forces on ‘Team Steve Dahl’ for the Chicago White Sox Go-kart Grand Prix, only to be defeated by a bunch of guys who took it WAY too seriously. They brought their own non-required fireproof suits and driving booties, and spent a lot of time before the race tuning up their cars. We just thought it was a light-hearted charity race, and with that lack of mental preparedness, we were defeated. Although one Dahl brother did manage to take 2nd in his heat. I’ll give you one guess who it was. Booyah!

Have a great weekend everyone!
