Making an EP

My band, Pet Lions, are currently recording an EP at Gallery of Carpet Studios in Villa Park. Here's a shot of me laying down some drums in the studio. Shuhei, our bass player, and I started the process on Saturday by recording just the bass and drums simultaneously. The majority of the day was spent trying to tune a snare drum that refused to cooperate with me or any of my tuning methods. After 3 hours of battling that monster, I decided that I would just go to Guitar Center and get a new one. I was planning on getting one anyway, so why not have it for the recording. (plus i have 30 days to return it).

We finished doing all the drums and bass on Sunday, tracking 5 songs in about 17-18 hours total over the weekend. Needless to say, it was rather intense. Last night, Karl, our guitar player, recorded all the rhythm guitars. We are recording on to 24-track analog tape, which is pretty cool, so the recording has kind of an old-school vintage sound. Currently, Tom, the lead player, is tracking his guitar parts. After that, it's vocals, overdubs, edits, and mixing! We should be done with it around the holidays, and I can't wait to offer it here to you as the Ultimate Stocking Stuffer.
